A return to the edge through a re-mapping, re-remembering and re-imagining of people, place, politics, and communities.

Punctum hosted Scotland based artist Luke Pell for a two-week residency in central Victoria. The residency was the beginning of an international exchange and started with a public conversation at Punctum’s ICU in Castlemaine.

Accomplished artist, Luke has worked for many years with people and artists who are on and in the edges of things, professions, art forms, communities, and experiences.

The conversation with Luke hosted by Punctum’s Artistic Director, Jude Anderson is an invitation to share your story of ‘the edge’ at the edge of town, where edges meet, connect and collide.

Luke’s artistic practice speaks to a return to the edge through a re-mapping, re-remembering and re-imagining of people, place, politics, and communities. Luke invites conversations and draws from these to create choreography in publicly accessible places. He is at the same time a host and curator. He works between artistic disciplines, with all generations and often at the intersection of residency and project development spaces.  He has a way of thinking with artists, communities and people who might describe themselves as ‘living on the edge’ of something or as an outlier ‘outliers’. His work is poetic. He “draws together seemingly unrelated constellations of bodies and thought to arrive at wisdoms for living.”

Luke grew up along the South East Coast of England and now lives on the East Coast of Scotland, beside the water, in the mist, between shore and sky. On an island where the edges of things seem to be getting sharper, an island that could fit 32 times inside Australia.

For our public conversation, we welcome people from all walks of life and experience to share where edges meet and move away from one another. We invite peoples’ respective and shared sense of physical and emotional landscapes to uncover what edges might be, mean, and become for people, place and practices.
