On Country is a self-determined residency program for First Nations artists who are connected to Djaara Country.
On Country offers First Nations artists the time, space, and support to determine what they need for their research, their autonomy, and the development of their idea and practice. It is a place for reflection and experimentation. On Country also enables safe and respectful gathering places for re-centring indigenous knowledge and cultural practices, and engaging with public.
If you are a First Nations artist connected to Djaara Country and are interested in an On Country residency, we’d love to hear from you. Contact our Artistic Director Jude Anderson to have a yarn about how we can support your next artistic pursuit via hq@punctum.com.au
Alvin Darcy is the 2022/23 On Country artist in residence. Alvin began his On Country research with Punctum in January 2022. Through this research and Punctum’s BEYOND artist centred program with national partners, he also participated in 2022 Situate Labs in Lutruwita/Tasmania and on Yorta Yorta Country in conjunction with Latrobe University’s Parched research program. His research is leading to a sharing of his new work in progress ‘Next On The List’ – at the Lot19 Gallery in Castlemaine at the end of April 2023.
